Rachel Hsu is a New York City-based artist working across contemporary, martial arts, and improvisational forms. Ongoing engagements include directing RH Moves, performing and choreographing for Ah-Molla Dance Collective and Umami Playground Dance Company, as well as teaching and creating commissioned work for Dartmouth College and Taipei American School.

Raised in Taiwan, Rachel relocated to the United States in 2019 to attend Dartmouth College, where she singularly received the Hieman-Rosenthal Award for Dance and graduated summa cum laude as a Computer Science, Linguistics, and Economics student. Since then, her work has been displayed at the Rockefeller Center, New York Design Week, Peridance Presents, Queensboro Dance Festival, Anthology33, and more, including collaborations in over five countries.

Other creative involvements have included: directing her one-shot dance film, Stranger, in collaboration with filmmaker Wan Rong Tseng; training with Capoeira Luanda, Hoolin Taekwondo, Wing-Chun Kung Fu, and Krav Maga; and featuring in music videos by pop artists Eileen Yo and  highvyn.

 

Through her work, Rachel bridges and explores the worlds of concert/commercial dance, martial arts/contemporary movement, and athleticism/intricacy.
